Rolfing Structural Integration

Ida Rolf

“Named after its founder, Dr. Ida P. Rolf, Rolfing Structural Integration is a form of bodywork that reorganizes the connective tissues, called fascia, that permeate the entire body . . . these connective tissues surround, support and penetrate all of the muscles, bones, nerves and organs. Rolfing Structural Integration works on this web-like complex of connective tissues to release, realign and balance the whole body, thus potentially resolving discomfort, reducing compensations and alleviating pain. Rolfing SI aims to restore flexibility, revitalize your energy and leave you feeling more comfortable in your body.”

The Rolf Institute

Although Dr. Rolf developed Rolfing in the early part of the 20th century, it is especially relevant for today’s stressful and chaotic times. Under stress, the body’s fascia contracts to brace and protect the body from the environment. This is usually an entirely unconscious process and can result in holding patterns that persist for years, long after the stressors are gone. These patterns can even imprint from one generation into the next. These fascial restrictions are often at the root of fatigue, pain patterns, and limitations of range of motion that prevent people from feeling at ease in their lives.

Historically, Rolfing was performed in a required sequence of ten sessions called "The Rolfing Ten Series.” The client would wear only their underwear and be visually analyzed and photographed while standing and walking. Rolfing also had the reputation of being extremely painful. I offer a different, client-centered approach to Rolfing that doesn't hurt.

I trained with Rolfers who did not cause me discomfort. I developed my practice to be available to clients like myself; people who are experiencing pain and looking for relief. I can work through most clothing, so there is no need to disrobe. I also don't use photography in my work. I  make sure people are comfortable by working on a heated adjustable table with blankets, pillows, and cushions, which also isn't typical in conventional Rolfing. While I offer the Rolfing Ten Series to anyone who would like it, I do not require it. As an Advanced Rolfer, I can create a customized treatment plan for your needs.

My Teachers

Ray McCall

Ray McCall  has 43 years of experience as a Rolfer®. As a DIRI Advanced faculty member, he teaches Rolfing® Training, Advanced Training, and Continuing Education classes both in the States and Abroad. His particular interest is the energetic taxonomy and how change occurs: how we more fully become and express who we are.

Ray trained to instructor level in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy.

Jonathan Martine

Jonathan Martine B.A., is a graduate of the Rolf Institute in Boulder, Colorado and member of the International Association of Structural Integrators. Jonathan specializes in Rolfing® Structural Integration, and utilizes neural and visceral manipulation, craniosacral therapy and other Osteopathic techniques in his unique style of bodywork. Jonathan utilizes these techniques to restore freedom of movement, proper alignment and balance to the body. He makes his home and practice in Colorado with offices in Longmont, and Central Denver.

Carol Agneessens

Carol Agneessens is an international educator and bodyworker.  With 40 years of experience as a rolfer, rolf-movement instructor, and, more recently, a Biodynamic Craniosacral therapist, Agneessens easily shifts from the bio-mechanical to the embryological paradigm to resolve structural issues concerning form and function. Carol Agneessens is the author of The Fabric of Wholeness (Quantum Institute Press, 2001), which explores gravity and the movement of daily life.

Robert Schrei

Robert Schrei is a Certified Advanced Rolfer with 24 years experience, a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist, an architect, artist, and former Zen teacher. He is the co-originator of SourcePoint Therapy® with his wife, Donna Thomson. SourcePoint Therapy evolved from Bob’s lifelong interest in structure and pattern and his personal study of sacred geometry, vibrational medicine, and shamanic healing. The basic practices were refined in his personal healing work for 10 years before he began to teach. Robert views healing as an art as well as a science, and his varied background allows him to bring a unique perspective to the field of energy medicine.

Larry Koliha

Larry Koliha, (1953-2024) was a Certified Advanced Rolfer and instructor at the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute and a Rolf Movement Practitioner at ActionPotential.

Larry was a naturally gifted Rolfer, from whom I received my first Rolfing Ten Series. He was also my module one instructor at the Rolf Institute.
